Easily Search and Find Google Bookmarks from Chrome

A couple of days ago I posted an article on how to export your Delicious bookmarks and import them into Google bookmarks. I’ve been liking Google Bookmarks since I switched, albeit it’s only been a few days, but one thing that’s been somewhat frustrating is easily accessing them. I’ve figured out a way and it’s simple, watch the following video:

The URL I paste into the last field is: https://www.google.com/bookmarks/l#!view=threadsmgmt&fo=Starred&g=Time&q=%s

Note: You need to be logged into your Google account when using this search otherwise it won’t search your bookmarks… obviously. :)

Export Bookmarks from Delicious, Import into Google Bookmarks

Simple but round-a-about way of getting your bookmarks out of Delicious and into Google Bookmarks.

Go to Delicious and sign in to your account, then go into Settings > Bookmarks Export. This will save an HTML file containing all your links.
Open Firefox (install if you don’t have, you can’t use Chrome to do this part). We’re going to be importing your Delicious bookmarks that you just exported into Firefox first. Open the “Bookmarks” menu and then click on “Organize Bookmarks…”, this will open a dialog, at the top are a few buttons, the one with a star on it has an option to import an HTML file, this is what you want to do, click this and then import the file you just exported from Delicious.
Now that all of your bookmarks are in Firefox, you need to install the Google Toolbar if you don’t already have it. Once installed, make sure you are signed into your Google Account (far right end of toolbar), click on the “Bookmarks” button, at the bottom of the drop-down that opens up, you should see “Import Firefox Bookmarks”, click on this.

It will show you a screen, confirming which one’s you want to import, click on the “Import” button to finish the process.

That’s it, your bookmarks should be at https://www.google.com/bookmarks/ now. To make new bookmarks, you can continue to use the toolbar, or any link you see in a Google search result, just click on the star, BAM!

Looks like this may be Amazon’s response to the likes of Rackspace’s cloud, where you can get VMs around $12/mo + bandwidth, which is about what one of these would cost per month, however these have more RAM at 613MB. Anyone try one out yet?

A PostgreSQL API based on libmemcached to interface with memcached… this thing looks promising.

Here are some reasons I’m excited about finding this:

Setup functions in Postgres that call the memcache methods
Set these up to perform on triggers, or just call them as needed at the application level
Use it to invalidate cache on the slave database server rather than when it’s first inserted into the master database, prevents an “orphaned” cache (inconsistency)
